Being charged with battery in california?

My boyfriend and I got into a arguement which turned into him pushing me and breaking my lap top and camera after these things were broken I hit him in his back with a closed first and he tried saying I choked him n busted his lip open which I did not do that. The cops ended up coming and I was aressted and spent 2 nights in jail n got out on bail. My court date is aug 22 and I am scared of what will happen to me this is the first time ever Ive been in trouble with the law. Also can I loose my children over this?
